Suatu hari, Syaqiq al-Balkhi, seorang sufi telah membeli sebiji tembikai untuk isterinya dan ini membuatkan isterinya begitu gembira.
Tetapi apabila buah tembikai itu dibelah, isinya tidak elok. Kerana itu marah-marahlah si isteri tadi kerana kecewa mendapati isi buah tembikai itu tidak seperti yang diharapkannya. “Kepada siapa engkau tujukan marah kau itu? Adakah kepada penjual, atau pembeli atau penanam ataupun kepada Pencipta buah tembikai iu?” tanya Syaqiq kepada isterinya.
Kemudian dengan lembut dia berkata lagi; “Wahai isteriku. Ketahuilah, si penjual itu tentu ingin agar jualannya terdiri daripada barangan yang terbaik. Si pembeli pula, tentu ingin membeli yang terbaik sahaja. Manakala si penanam, kalau mampu sudah tentu dia ingin agar hasil tanamannya yang terbaik juga.
Nyatalah, bahawa marahmu itu ditujukan kepada Pencipta buah tembikai itu. Bertakwalah engkau kepada Allah dan redhalah dengan segala ketentuannya.”
